1. What's the address of the MUD?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

The address is: ansalonmud.com port 8679 - Connect!

Click Here! And connect to Ansalon with our Java Inline Client

For those who need the IP address, it is 204.209.44.23
And yes, we have moved servers back to Wolfpaw, no mutiny this time.

2. What MUD code base does Ansalon run?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

Ansalon runs using the Ansalon 1.4 code base. Where we came from?
DikuMUD by Hans Staerfeldt, Katja Nyboe, Tom Madsen, Michael Seifert, and Sebastian Hammer. Long Live DIKU!!
MERC 2.1 code by Hatchet, Furey, and Kahn. MERC INDUSTRIES BABY!
ROM 2.4 copyright (c) 1993-1998 Russ Taylor. Rivers of.... MUD!!!
Ansalon 1.4b2 1996-2008 David Leverich, John Patrick, Jason Dotter, Scott MacLean and others who left their footprints.

Great inspiration for MUDs came from "Colossal Cave Adventure" and Zork
See the helpfiles in the games, you'll note some homeage to them in places
as well. As well as Original MUD and MUD2.

3. What's the * before the name in the who list?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

As Ansalon does have (somewhat limited) Player Killing (called PK), the * signifies who has chosen to participate in PK. This choice can not be reversed after level 14.

4. What do you mean by somewhat limited PK?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

On Ansalon, in order to commit PK, both you and your target must have selected to be PKillable (see question 3), and must be within 7 levels of each other. Role play of Player Killing IS required. Player stealing (stealing equipment/money from Player Characters) is also restricted by these regulations.

5. Can I give some equipment/money from one of
my characters to another one of my characters?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

Absolutely not. Multiplaying is not allowed on Ansalon. This includes swapping equipment/money between any of your own characters, as well as any interaction. Dropping equipment/money, disconnecting, and connecting as another character to get that equipment/money is illegal, as is giving someone else equipment/money for them to pass on to your character.

Multiplay is grounds for slaying and devouring the corpses of both characters. The immstaff hates doing this, but we will if need be.

6. What does a <________> coupon do?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

Ansalon has a series of "coupons" that can be purchased with Quest Points at a Quest Master if desired. They are as follows:

an Official Pardon An official Pardon can be purchased at the Quest Master in the major cities. Yes, even the law can be swayed with the right incentive..
A pardon will make the guards no longer see you as a KILLER or THIEF. In fact, you simply eat it and no one will call you either of those, unless you commit another heinous crime. (Eat to use)
Restring coupon
Redeeming one of these with an Immortal allows you to change the appearance of any piece of equipment that you own. For example, you can change your mithril sword to be a vicious looking saber. You may now use the RESTRING MACHINE in Palanthas to automatically restring your items!!! (Imm approval at the end)
Petstring coupon
Redeeming one of these with an Immortal allows you to change the appearance of a pet that you own. If you use your pet for Role Play, a unique Dragon or Mercenary could be great! Hans the stick, Firlung the Red Dragon... all petstrings must be immortal approved.
Home coupon
Redeeming one of these with an Immortals allows you to be sent "home" from any place on the MUD. (Eat to use)
Quest note
A quest note can be redeemed for a corpse retrieval, a restring (see above), or cashed in for 10 diamonds.
Global echo coupon
Redeeming one of these with a few select Immortals allows you to have a "global echo" sent with your choice of words (within reason). A global echo is a set of text that is set to all players currently on the MUD. It can contain color if desired.
True faith coupon
Redeeming this with one the implementors/creators allows you to "see the light" so to speak and have your alignment reset to its "proper" value. (eat to use)
Makeover coupon
The most expensive of coupons, this allows you to get a complete whole-body equipment restring: a restring (see above) of every piece of equipment that you're can wear, as well as a container. Very rare, and worth it for big RPers.
Mastercraft coupon
A Mastercraft coupon lets your weapon be improved, mastercrafted, which causes it to do an additional dice of damage (if it was 10d12, it's now 11d12), this increases it's damage in combat. Weapons can only be Mastercrafted ONE time. A Mastercraft coupon is VERY valuable.
Enchantment coupon
An Enchantment coupon adds magical damage and hitroll adjustments to a weapon. The maximum enchantment on any item is based upon the ITEM's level. IE. A level 121 sword (101 to use), 18/18 is maximum, level 61 sword 9/9 (.3 or 3/10ths of the item level). Obviously, 8/8 is a normal 101 mage's usual maximum, so items under level 60 would be a waste of the coupon, but can be done if insisted.
Weaponflag coupon
This coupon may be used to CHANGE any ONE flag on a weapon to another flag, this is only extra flags like vampiric, vorpal etc. This coupon will not change the damage type. This coupon must be presented to an implementor to be used, and may be used multiple times on a single item. This coupon is only valid on STOCK and NON-CLAN items. This weapon only changes Special Types, such as Shocking, Throwable, Poison etc. This coupon can not be used to change two-handed, rot death flags.
Train/Gain/Practice coupons
These coupons when eaten will add a trains, gains, or practices to your score. They can be very useful when you want to add that certain skill... Trains increase stats (STR/INT/DEX/WIS/CON) or gain skills, Gains let you add skills, practices let you get better at a given skill (up to 75% efficiency)

In addition, other coupons may be given out as quest prizes, etc. For more information about those coupons, please ask the Immortal that gave them out.

7. How do I change which god I worship?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

Only a high level Immortal can change which god you worship. If you desire a god change, you must do the following:

  1. Send a note to 'immortal' asking to be changed. Make sure to list who you want to be changed to.
  2. Role-play out your new "religion". A story on the story board might help.
  3. Present a true faith coupon upon approval by an IMP.
  4. Wait a bit. It will happen. Continually bugging the Immortal Staff about it doesn't help your cause.

8. How can I become an Immortal on Ansalon?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

Probably one of the most asked questions from players on Ansalon is how can s/he obtain an Immortal position. Immortals are often chosen from our playerbase based on RP-skill, dedication, and willingness to help. The best way to get an Immortal position is to excel in those areas. The best way to hurt your chances is to consistantly ask/beg Immortals about a position.

The best summary would be: Don't ask us, we'll ask you!

9. How do I join the Solamnic Knights/Mercenary/Conclave/etc.?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

In order to join a Clan (also referred to as a Guild), you must seek out the Leader (signified by a <L> after the clan tag) or a Recruiter (signified by a <R> after the clan tag). S/he will let you know the requirements for joining that clan. Once you've met the requirements, you must "petition" to join the clan.

10. Can I advertise other MUDs on Ansalon?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

No. Advertising one MUD on another is considered extremely rude.
For advertisements of MUDs, check out the appropriate UseNet groups as well as websites such as MudConnect.com, which has specific discussion groups precisely for this. We'll feed you to the dragons if you persist. :)

11. Can I change my PK status?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

Yes, and no.
After level 14... No. This is to prevent people from either:

  1. Leveling up and gaining equipment safe from PK then switching, therefore imbalancing the system, or
  2. Pkilling then switching to be safe from retribution.

Before level 15, your PK Status can be changed quite simply by using the pkstatus command, pkstatus nopk, pkstatus pk, once you hit 15, it's permanent unless you delete/remake.

12. Is (name of a specific Immortal) on now?
I need a tell.
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

First, do a "who immortal". If the Immortal that you wish to contact is not listed, either he or she is not online, busy working on Ansalon business, or unable to be bothered. Remember: All you have to do is play and have a good time on Ansalon. The Immortal staff must work hard (for free!) to make Ansalon enjoyable.

Do not ask other Immortals to check to see if a specific Immortal is online. If you need a restring, or other coupon redeemed, almost any Immortal can redeem them. If the Immortal answering can not help you, he or she will forward you on to an Immortal who can, or let the other Immortal know that his/her abilities are needed.

If you worship the Immortal you need to talk to, simply send a message over the "pray" channel. This doesn't spam the rest of the players, and also is a good way to get ahold of your "worshipped" Immortal.

13. Do I have to RP on Ansalon?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

Absolutely. Ansalon is a RP-based MUD. Please do your part.

14. How can I build for you?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

Easy. Log on, and type "help builder". Follow the steps, and you'll be contacted!

15. I want to start a new clan. How do I go about doing this?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic

Ansalon has a Clan Committee which decides what clans need to be added, changed, or removed. If you wish to create a clan, please send a note to immortal detailing the clan idea, including DragonLance-based RP for it, background, and reison d'etre.

16. Where can I get a good MUD client?
Ansalon dragonlance mud celtic bar graphic
